Great Heart (Poem)

If you help somebody

It’s an accident

Cause the world is bloody

Never learn from precedent

It pulses and beats

In hollers and heats

Life flows down streets

Aorta greets

Whatever passes ‘long

Takes it through

Circulation washes right or wrong

You were there just there

And so was the moment

Don’t you know where

You paid the rent

You want the credit

That you’re living on

Always try to edit

Just to get along

So what’s it now

When the coronary

Shows we’ve nothing to sow

Kills your last canary

It’s an accident

Yea, you helped somebody

To see the sense in spent

yea it was dirty bloody

Great heart

You

Yea

You

And

That’s a start

TFS 22 – Coronavirus, Kvass, and Carolina Living

Note (I repeated a factoid from another YouTuber (CoffeeTalk) “bird flu has 98% or so survival rate) I was unable to confirm this via Google. All I got was survival rate of the virus strains in Korea not of people. I did find a sixty percent mortality rate. That being said I don’t think he’s entirely off the mark because the CDC said the following:
While the risk from Asian H5N1 is low to most people, CDC recommends general precautions.
Sporadic human infections with Asian H5N1 virus have occurred in other countries, primarily in Asia and Africa. Most human infections with Asian H5N1 viruses in other countries have occurred after prolonged and close contact with infected sick or dead birds.
No animal or human infections with Asian H5N1 virus have occurred in the United States.

Video is about Coronavirus news, media coverage, Kvass and beer, Russian memories, and the economy.

(I’m aware the audio doesn’t match. Sorry, I had no time to fix it.)

TFS 21 – Coronavirus in Romania, Criticizing the Alt Media, and More

I discuss recent developments in the spread of the Coronavirus via a critique of alt-media commentary. The commentator in question is a Romanian citizen who goes by the internet name “Vee.”

Background Info:

(Note: Italy is mentioned because it is experiencing an outbreak and many Romanians travel between Italy and Romania.)

Recent Developments in Coronavirus News:

Italy has only a moderate level of air traffic with China – approximately comparable to Russia and France, lower than Germany and the UK, fivefold lower than the US.
Italy was the only country in Europe to ban all direct flights from China on January 31. (This appears to have actually no less hard a response than Russia’s ban on Chinese citizens on February 20, which however excluded transit and business visitors).
Belying stereotypes, the Italian epidemiological response has been highly competent (if by unexacting global standards), with most or all people displaying flu-like symptoms apparently being tested.

Why Corona Is Worying:

Most cases are asymptomatic; in cases where symptoms do appear, which can happen as much as 2 weeks after infection, they are easily confounded with the flu. From the earlier days, it has been estimated – and repeatedly confirmed – that COVID-19 has only a 10% detection rate (BTW, Davide Piffer estimates it at 18%). Meanwhile, carriers need not be symptomatic to transmit. At such early stages, you are only going to identify these clusters by intensive testing, which as I understand nobody apart from Italy and South Korea is really doing yet. One might make a comparison to a tsunami. Undetectable when it’s out in the deep ocean, unless you’re specifically looking for it… until it comes to shore and crashes down on local healthcare systems.

No Way To Last (Poem)

asf

Yea.

I’m constantly wired.

Yea.

I’m hardly tired.

Yea.

It’s hard to the nth degree.

Yea.

This stream so fierce so free.

Yea.

Watch it hurtle me.

Yea.

Blur is all I see.

Woah.

Electronic.

Woah.

Pornographic.

Woah.

Everywhere.

Woah.

At once here and there.

No.

There’s not time to flip the page.

No.

There’s no time to feel my age.

No.

There’s no time to kiss.

No.

There’s no love to miss.

Yea.

Love takes time and love takes distance.

Yea.

It’s not possible in an instance.

Yea.

Load me up.

Yea.

More espresso in the cup.

Yea.

Carry on!

Yea.

Past today till life is gone!

Woah.

The screens don’t slow.

Woah.

I’ve got to go.

Woah.

Watch the updates flow.

Woah.

All at once all in a row.

No.

No time to sing.

No.

No time to give a friend a ring.

No.

No little notes on her doorstep.

No.

No time to prep.

Yea.

It’s all at once.

Yea.

It’s all already here ya dunce.

Yea.

One exploding instance.

Yea.

Can’t tell it’s static when it’s moving fast.

Yea.

There’s no past.

Yea.

Don’t linger.

Yea.

This pace don’t make a singer.

Yea.

This is the way it’s gotta be.

Yea.

One direction that’s what I call free.

Yea.

Over the edge.

Yea.

Don’t compose an adage.

Yea.

Don’t compose at all.

Yea.

Just fall.

Yea.

Fall fast.

Yea.

There’s no way to last.

Rick Beato Tackles YouTube Stupidity

My Two Cents: you can’t own the mixolydian scale. you can’t own a persons understanding of music. you can’t own a person’s performance of music. by this logic cover bands, and musicians playing covers in bars, are criminals. i.e. every musician is a criminal who owes somebody money going all the way back to the caveman who smacked a coupla rocks together.

TFJ – Show Schedule

20181210_124943
Pictured: Writing

I think I gave intimations earlier last week about my scheduling aspirations.

Here they are in writing:

Daily: I’ll be doing a Vlog which I hope to also turn into a podcast called TFS (The Fractal Standard) in which I’ll ramble about current events and pretty much anything that comes to mind. This is basically a way for me to have consistent output that not only allows me to develop ideas and my riffing skills, but to keep a steady rhytm. Something simple enough to draw me to my workstations with promises of feasible completability.

Frida – Monday: I’ll be doing background work, like researching, writing, editing, doing web design stuff, trying to arrange interviews or coordinate travel plans if the subject matter demands it.

The writing publications like essays, stories, and poems will be set to autopublish on various days of the weeks. This will keep the content stream fat, fresh, and tasty.

Tuesday – Thursday: Topical vlogs published alongside whatever work was scheduled from the weekend and TFS.

Tuesday: Historical Oddities and Little Known Truths

Wednsday: Health Science News

Thursday: The Creative Lifestyle

Clearly, this is fairly ambitious. Especially for a procrastinating shit like myself with familial and domestic duties. So it will take some time to perfect. But it is a target that I intend to aim for in earnest.

Thanks for stopping by over the years and sticking with me through my dryspells, various sudden story deaths, and general shtibaggery.

I appreciate all of my readers old or new.

Sincerely.

TFS – 17 – Poverty and Intelligence, Aldi’s Thrift, and Hippy Points

Environmental factors do indeed play a significant role in cognitive performance. At least according to the studies listed in this “The Correspondent” article.

TFS – Episode 15 – Volatile Diet Advice, Philosophy is the Explanation of Science, Political Theater

Wooh! Had to change that from Coffee and Shifting Diet Advice to Volatile Diet Advice so the damned title would fit. This makes me feel accomplished. Most likely because I’m an idiot.

Here’s my “show” (pfft) notes cause I’m too shattered to write a synopsis:
Coffee

I’m having my fourth cup of coffee.
Just read an article from NYT via Pocket Recoomendations on Coffee. (Yes, Racoomendations I like to think Racoons scour the net for fun facts)

Image result for racoon computer
(Yes, Racoomendations I like to think Racoons scour the net for fun facts)

This is why all dietary advice, especially older dietary advice, should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
They found that coffee was heatlhy AFTER they took people out of the data set that also smoked. If I read this correctly this wasn’t done till 2015!

Philosophy’s Contribution to Science

“We illustrate our point with three examples taken from various fields of the contemporary life sciences. Each bears on cutting-edge scientific research, and each has been explicitly acknowledged by practicing researchers as a useful contribution to science. These and other examples show that philosophy’s contribution can take at least four forms: the clarification of scientific concepts, the critical assessment of scientific assumptions or methods, the formulation of new concepts and theories, and the fostering of dialogue between different sciences, as well as between science and society.

– PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of The United States)

My Two Cents: So in essence this boils down philosophy being integral in the understanding and communication of science. Which makes sense since science sprang from philosophy and continued to develop both parallel and in tandem.

How Much Attention Should We Pay to Campaign Theater?

Discuss the conversation you had Wednesday night and extrapolate:

I mentioned to an acquintance at my grandfather’s church that I had given up on elections and instead decided to try to educate myself and others about various issues so as to drive change at the grassroots level.

Is this an effective strategy.

Clearly at least some attention must be paid to elections.

However, I cannot help but conclude that a lot of the election process, and the debates, are highly charged emotional theater that polarizes people, and detracts from the issues by only giving a surface level analysis in order to classify ourselves into respective positions.

Just look at all the issues that have all the juice squeezed out of them till nothing but the dry core remains leaving us with broadbrush arguments for or against socialism, populism, welfare, bootstrapping, environmentalism, business etc.

It’s basically an antrhoporphization of issues into people we would like to be.

It does not bode well for solving problems.
